Who doesn't adore a long weekend? With the upcoming bank holiday just around the corner, excitement is building! Wyre has an abundance of activities to entertain the whole family.

Garstang Walking Festival – This year’s walking festival is taking place from Saturday 4 May until Sunday 12 May and is marking a special occasion as it celebrates its 20th birthday. With up to 40 walks for all ages and abilities, the festival is the perfect chance to experience the best of springtime in the company of friendly and knowledgeable walk leaders. Walks will take place around Garstang, rural Wyre, the Forest of Bowland and Morecambe Bay. Choose from a huge range of walks, including the three day Wyre Way Challenge, easy access short walks, family activities, evening walks, wildlife strolls, heritage rambles, tramper trials, dog friendly trails and everything in between! Garstang Walking Festival’s 20th birthday bash and Coronation walk - Head over to Cherestanc Square, Garstang between 1-4pm on Monday 6 May for a jubilant birthday bash filled with delightful activities. Expect scrumptious cake, fun family games, art and craft activities for the little ones, live musical performances, and even a surprising appearance by a rocking sheep!

On offer, as part of the festivities, is the Coronation Walk. Launched last year in honour of His Majesty The King’s Coronation, Wyre Council has integrated this walk into the Garstang Walking Festival programme. From Cherestanc Square, the one-hour walk will go down one of Garstang’s many weinds, pass through the high street and on to the riverside paths of Millennium Green before circling back to Cherestanc Square. It will be be led by the popular Skiband, who are making a welcome return to this year’s celebrations.

Also joining in the festivities is Garstang`s popular Ukelele band and at Cherestanc Square will be Maurice, the rodeo sheep. Climb onto Maurice’s back and see how long you can hang on as he twists and turns to try and throw you off.

Guys Thatched Hamlet – If you go down to Guys Thatched Hamlet, you’re sure of a big surprise! Their Teddy bears Picnic is taking place between 4-6 May, from 10.30am-5pm each day. Enjoy a kiddies DJ spinning tunes on stage, along with plenty of entertaining games. Meet your favourite characters throughout the afternoon and compete for prizes in categories like best-loved teddy, best-dressed teddy, and best-named teddy. Enjoy the funfair and giant inflatables. Don't forget to visit the Teddy Hospital and Homeless Teddy Shelter. Enjoy delicious food options including picnics, BBQ, hot drinks and beverages from the bar. Take your beloved teddy bear with you for a delightful day out!

Affinity Lancashire Outlet Shopping, Fleetwood - Get ready for another exciting instalment of 'Artisan Street' at Affinity! Taking place on Monday 6 May from 10am to 5pm. Explore a variety of offerings from local independent traders, featuring artisanal products like arts, crafts, delicious treats, unique gifts and much more. There's something for everyone.

Also at Affinity this bank holiday weekend is Elmer’s Reuse and Recycle Welly Planting Workshop. Taking place on Monday 6 May from 11am-4pm, you'll get the chance to plant your very own welly with flower seeds that will grow into colourful blooms! You can either bring your own welly or use one of theirs - the choice is yours!

Fleetwood Day – On Sunday 5 May, Fleetwood Day makes its annual comeback to celebrate the best of this coastal town. Taking place at Euston Gardens from 11am-5pm, you can enjoy live music and entertainment, children’s games, heritage activities and much more. Performers include The Cracked, Chique, Wally and Dion, Fylde Ukulele Band, Sarah Mellor, Alan and Alyson, Morris Dancing displays, a mime artist and Punch and Judy Show. Head down and enjoy this free community spirited event.

Cleveleys Mythic Coast AR Trail - Home to a stunning series of sculptures known as the mythic coast, Cleveleys has its very own augmented reality app for everyone to experience the seafront in an entirely new way. 

You can follow the Mythic Coast trail on the app which combines adapted and original illustration and animation, 3D digital art, poetry and music.

Available on the App Store and Google Play, download the free app and experience an immersive digital story that brings the pieces of artwork on the beach and promenade to life.
