Accessible Wyre
Wyre welcomes everyone and endeavours to help all our visitors have a great time enjoying our beautiful coastline, in our towns and villages, or experiencing our breathtaking countryside, at our many attractions, in our restaurants, or on public transport or simply getting around.
The beach wheelchair service is for all those with disability, who would find beach access impossible with normal wheelchairs. It’s manned entirely by volunteers and is a first for the Fylde Coast.
Wyre's leisure centres have gym equipment which is Inclusive Fitness Initiative standard equipment. Fleetwood and Poulton Leisure Centres (YMCA) have hoists to help people gain water entry for swimming.
Wyre in partnership with Fleetwood Town Football Club hosts an annual Summer Activity Club, usually held in August, for ages 8 to 18 with additional needs or disabilities. Details can be found in our Whats On Section
Wyre is also proud to host - Wyre Wheels, which is a cycling programme at Memorial Park offering participants the opportunity to ride adapted bicycles including trikes, side-by-sides, hand bikes, quad and wheelchair bikes.Welcoming anyone to attend sessions, whether disabled, have limited mobility, recovering from illness or injury, elderly or just want to get back on a bike. Everyone is encouraged to participate!
There are a number of countryside trails that are easily accessible for those with wheelchairs and pushchairs - routes that don't involve any stiles or steep gradients. This is helping to ensure that every member of the family can now experience the beauty of Rural Wyre and The Forest of Bowland AONB.
Those with limited ability can hire out a Tramper - a specially designed four-wheel drive all terrain electric buggy that has no problem with rough ground, or even mud and grass. This fantastic invention offers much-needed assistance to those who have difficulty walking and those who are less able to explore the countryside, woodland and lakesides.
A number of Tramper Trails have been created, including two in Bleasdale, one that starts in Claughton, one that starts in Scorton and two at Wyre Estuary Country Park in Stanah.
Bleasdale Tramper Trail 1 - This route is fantastic for nature and wildlife lovers, with plenty of scope for exploring woodlands of beech, oak and Scots pine, as well as the elusive brown hare (particularly during the spring time). At around 3.5 miles, the trail should take no more than two and a half hours to complete.
..
The Priory Trails - Starting in the picturesque village of Scorton, this circular trail boasts two optional extensions so you can choose which route you'd prefer to explore. The main route takes you along quiet country lanes that offer up great views stretching out over the Fylde coast in the west and the AONB's rugged moorland tops in the east.
Hiring a Tramper
Trampers are available to hire free of charge. There are two Tramper Trails of differing lengths at Wyre Estuary Country Park, Stanah, which is a good place to try using them for the first time. An induction is given to help you get started.
