Beaches

Rossall beach

A nature enthusiast’s paradise, Rossall Beach has a wilder feel than the main seafront areas of Cleveleys and Fleetwood. A shingle beach, the stretch mainly consists of pebbles, with low tide giving way to an expanse of flat sand. A calm and picturesque spot, Rossall Beach is a perfect place to take a walk, do some bird watching, or even simply relax and enjoy the view.

Both the beach and the neighbouring sand dunes are thriving habitats for both native and migrating wildlife. In the summer you might spot the common blue butterfly, which feeds from two particular species of wildflowers growing in the dunes, or if you look out to the beaches, you’ll be able to spot an exciting variety of birds including the Ringed Plover, Sanderling, and Turnstone.

Even the strandline is filled with life. Among the debris thrown onto the shore by the waves, wildlife such as sand hoppers and cockles can be found, along with evidence of marine life such as mermaid’s purses and paddock shells.

You can learn much more about this strip of coastline by visiting the iconic Rossall Point Tower which overlooks the beach. Explore the tower’s three floors where you will find lots of information about the local ecology and environment, along with a viewing platform at the

top of the tower which offers simply stunning views of the area. On a clear day, you’ll even be able to spot the hills and mountains of the Lake District in the distance.

A popular destination for water sports, Rossall Point is a great place to enjoy kite surfing, wind surfing and beach fishing.
