Filmed in Wyre
Wyre: the backdrop to the big screen
Explore Victorian London and galactic galaxies, all from the North West of England!
Wyre has played host to Hollywood‑level streaming productions, prime‑time television, gripping dramas and documentaries, while also supporting and championing local independent filmmakers.
Here are just a few of the many films and television programmes that have been shot in Wyre...
Star Wars: Andor
Star Wars: Andor, the acclaimed Disney+ prequel series to Rogue One, brought a galaxy far, far away to Wyre's coast when parts of the show were filmed in Cleveleys. In May 2021, the promenade, Café Cove, Mary’s Shell and the surrounding beachfront were transformed—using practical sets and CGI—into the sun‑soaked resort planet Niamos, which appears in Episode 7, Announcement. Coastal Britain with Helen Skelton
Channel 5’s Coastal Britain brought presenter Helen Skelton to Wyre, where she filmed at Fleetwood’s Rossall Coastwatch Tower. During her visit, Helen spent time with the National Coastwatch volunteers, learning how they monitor the coastline, respond to fast‑moving tides and help keep people safe along the Fylde coast. The episode showcases Wyre’s dramatic seafront, its stunning views across Morecambe Bay, and the vital lifesaving work carried out by the dedicated team at Rossall Point.
BBC Question Time
Wyre had the national spotlight when BBC Question Time was filmed at the beautiful Marine Hall in Fleetwood, bringing one of the country’s flagship political debate programmes to our iconic seafront venue. Known for its stunning art‑deco architecture and panoramic coastal views, Marine Hall provided a striking backdrop as local residents joined the live audience to engage with leading political figures. The BBC returned to Marine Hall after hosting Question Time in 2023, highlighting the venue’s growing reputation as a welcoming, high‑quality location for major national broadcasts.
Cobra
COBRA is a British political thriller series that followed the Prime Minister and the Cabinet Office Briefing Rooms team as they responded to major national emergencies — from solar storms and cyberattacks to political unrest. Starring Robert Carlyle and Victoria Hamilton, the drama dived into high‑stakes decision‑making inside government while also exploring the personal pressures faced by those in power. The series was filmed across the UK with key scenes set in Kent during series two actually filmed in Fleetwood.
