A century of memories celebrated at Jean Stansfield Memorial Park

Commemorative stone at Jean Stansfield Park Poulton

Residents and visitors came together on Saturday 20 June to celebrate a major milestone as Jean Stansfield Memorial Park marked its 100th anniversary with a successful day of free family entertainment.

The event, organised by Wyre Council in partnership with Poulton Partnership, attracted a fantastic turnout, with sunny weather helping to make the occasion a memorable community celebration.

The centenary event featured a packed programme of activities and entertainment for all ages, including performances from The Maniax comedy stunt show, The Van Dunk Brothers' synchronised swimming act and The Giant Balloon Show, alongside family games, community stalls and walkabout entertainment.

A highlight of the celebrations was the unveiling of a commemorative stone by the Mayor of Wyre, marking 100 years since the park was first opened to the public. The stone was commissioned by Wyre Borough Council and created by Stevensons Memorials using a piece of sandstone. It features an engraved image of a tree and a young girl playing, alongside commemorative text that has been carefully painted to enhance the design.

The commemorative stone has been installed as a lasting tribute to the park's rich heritage and the generations of local families who have enjoyed the space over the past century. It is hoped that the memorial will remain in place for future generations to enjoy, standing proudly in the park for another 100 years. The event celebrated not only the park's history but also its continued importance as a community asset.

Wyre Council would like to thank Poulton Partnership, Stevensons Memorials, performers, stallholders, volunteers and everyone who attended and helped make the centenary celebration such a success. The council would also like to recognise and thank its Grounds Maintenance Team, whose hard work and dedication throughout the year help keep Jean Stansfield Memorial Park looking its very best for residents and visitors to enjoy.

As the park enters its second century, the commemorative stone will serve as a lasting reminder of a day when the community came together to honour the past and celebrate the future of one of Poulton's most loved parks.
