New strategy and website launched to celebrate Wyre's heritage and culture
Wyre Council has launched a new Heritage and Culture Strategy alongside a dedicated website designed to showcase the borough's rich history, vibrant creative scene and thriving communities.
The new website, Wyre Heritage - A Lancashire Gem, brings together information about local historic attractions and sites, arts and culture events and community stories in one accessible online hub.
The strategy sets out an ambitious vision to ensure Wyre's unique heritage, creativity and cultural assets are celebrated, help strengthen the local economy and foster a strong sense of pride in the borough. It aims to ensure these assets are cherished, shared, understood and enjoyed, while supporting creativity, cultural connections and community wellbeing.
Developed following extensive consultation with businesses, heritage organisations, cultural partners, stakeholders and local communities, the strategy identifies a series of priorities that will guide future activity. These include protecting and enhancing natural and built heritage, supporting arts and creativity, creating new opportunities for experiences and engagement, developing skills, strengthening partnerships and ensuring the value of these assets is captured and measured.
The strategy recognises the importance local heritage, culture and creativity play in shaping places, supporting economic growth, improving health and wellbeing, and creating vibrant communities where people want to live, work and visit.
Councillor Lynne Bowen, Portfolio Holder for Health, Wellbeing and Community Engagement, said:

This new strategy sets out our vision for protecting and celebrating these assets while creating new opportunities for residents, businesses and visitors. The launch of the website is an important milestone, providing a dedicated platform where people can discover more about Wyre's history, find cultural activities and learn about the projects helping to shape our future. The new website also provides opportunities for local groups, organisations and community partners to showcase their work and help tell the story of Wyre for future generations.
A dedicated 'Share Your Stories' section invites residents to contribute their own memories and experiences. Whether you have a personal memory of growing up in Wyre, an interesting story about a family member, or photographs that capture life in the borough, you can upload your story and images to the website. We'd love to hear from you and help preserve these stories for future generations.
