Heritage Open Days 2026 invites residents and visitors to discover Wyre's rich history

Part of England's largest festival of history and culture, Heritage Open Days offers residents and visitors the opportunity to explore the stories, places and people that have shaped Wyre over the centuries. From guided heritage walks through towns and countryside to fascinating exhibitions and behind-the-scenes access to historic buildings, there is something for all ages to enjoy. 

This year's programme includes a range of guided walks led by Wyre's countryside team and local heritage experts. Explore former rural landscapes on the Vanished Farms and Orchards walk, discover the history of Garstang on the 500 Years of Garstang trail, follow the route of Poulton Railway Heritage Walk, or learn about the area's maritime past on the Early Navigation in the River Wyre walk. Visitors can also uncover the heritage of Knott End, Poulton town centre, the Wyre Estuary and Bleasdale through a series of engaging guided experiences. 

A number of heritage venues and exhibitions will also open their doors free of charge throughout the festival. Residents and visitors can browse historic photographs at the Poulton-le-Fylde Heritage Exhibition at Poulton Library, explore the architecture and heritage displays at Marine Hall, discover Bleasdale's local history at the Bleasdale Parish Hall Heritage Afternoon and visit the recently restored The Mount Pavilion and Rossall Point Tower. 

The programme also includes the popular Fleetwood Cemetery History Walk, offering visitors the chance to learn about some of the people who helped shape the town and its history.

Whether you're exploring one of our historic buildings, joining a guided walk or visiting a local exhibition, there are plenty of opportunities to learn something new about our borough.

"We're fortunate to have such a rich and diverse heritage across Wyre, from our coastal landmarks and historic town centres to our rural landscapes and communities. I encourage residents and visitors alike to take advantage of these free events and help us celebrate the heritage that makes Wyre so special."
