It’s that magical time of year again when Wyre’s towns and villages begin to sparkle with festive cheer!

Across the borough, Christmas tree lights will soon be switched on, bringing communities together to celebrate the season. From live performances and family-friendly activities to festive markets and entertainment, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Read on to find out when and where your nearest light switch-on event is taking place – and start planning your festive outing! 

Cleveleys – Saturday 22 November

Get ready for a full day of festive fun in Cleveleys as the Princess Road event space and Victoria Road West come alive with Christmas cheer! Enjoy toe-tapping tunes from the Thornton Brass Band, lively performances by the Singleton Cloggers and magical moments with Christmas walkabout characters. Little ones will love the festive donkey rides, and there’s plenty more to explore with craft stalls, games and tombola's – all raising funds for local town projects. The grand Christmas lights switch-on takes place at 4pm outside Specsavers, so don’t miss the sparkle! 

Garstang – Monday 24 November

Garstang’s Christmas Lights Switch-On is set to dazzle with the big moment happening at 6.30pm in Cherestanc Square. The community is invited to come together for an evening of festive fun, featuring Christmas carols, live music, refreshments and seasonal entertainment. It’s the perfect way to kick off the holiday season and soak up the magical atmosphere in the heart of Garstang. 

Thornton – Tuesday 25 November 

Thornton is set to sparkle this season as the festive lights at Four Lane Ends begin to shine from 25 November, lighting up the town into the New Year! While there won’t be an official switch-on ceremony, the dazzling display will bring plenty of seasonal cheer to the area – perfect for getting into the Christmas spirit during your winter strolls or shopping trips. 

Fleetwood – Saturday 29 November

Fleetwood Town Council will host its annual Lantern Parade and Lights Switch-On with festivities beginning at approximately 4:15pm. The event will start at Fisherman’s Walk, where the festive tram will lead participants through the town to the North Euston Hotel. From there, the Lantern Parade will continue to the Marine Hall, where the Christmas tree lights will be switched on. Guests can enjoy a lively atmosphere with festive music provided by DJ Dave Scrivener. 

Preesall and Knott End – Saturday 29 November

The Preesall and Knott End Christmas Lights Switch-On is set to bring festive sparkle to Barton Square, Knott End from 4pm to 6pm. The highlight of the evening will be the Christmas tree switch-on at 5pm, led by the Mayor and the Preesall and Knott End Gala Queen. Families can enjoy a magical lantern parade, a special visit from Santa on his sleigh and a heartwarming programme of entertainment including carol singing by choirs from Carters Charity School and Fleetwood Charity School, dancers from Fleetwood Charity School and festive music from Over Wyre Brass. It’s a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season and celebrate with the local community. 

Hambleton – Friday 5 December

Hambleton’s Christmas Lights Switch-On will take place at 7pm at Ryecroft Corner. This charming village celebration will see the lights switched on by none other than the Gala Queen Bunny, adding a special touch to the evening. Attendees can enjoy festive carols performed by Over Wyre Brass and a delightful performance from the Hambleton Primary Academy Choir. After the switch-on, guests are invited to the United Reformed Church for free refreshments served by the Hambleton Gala Committee. While the event and refreshments are free, donations are welcome and will go towards supporting the 2026 village Gala. 

Poulton – Friday 5 December

Poulton Christmas Festival is set to bring festive cheer to the town on Friday 5 December, running from 12 noon to 7pm. Visitors can browse a variety of stalls offering local crafts, unique Christmas gifts and delicious hot food and drinks. The festival’s very own Christmas bar will be serving up seasonal favourites including beers, mulled wine and hot chocolate. Families can enjoy kiddies rides and soak up the atmosphere with live entertainment on stage throughout the day, featuring performances from local schools, bands, singers, dance schools – and even a visit from Santa himself!
